Being honest Merlin is not suitable for a nervous rider, my 6 year old could already walk and trot when we got him. He is great on the lead rein but is happier off it. He is also not great if left for weeks without riding due to him loving being ridden he can get excited if not ridden for a while. Like all ponies he can shy but not often. That being said he is great with kids, my 10 year old can get him in, groom, and tack up and we can ride together out in the woods, roads (he is great in traffic) or around an arena or fields. He is a good weight carry being cob like, he would make someone very happy as he really has done it all.
Nick names for him are mountain goat - he is very sure footed, and puppy as he follows you around the field wanting cuddles.
He is also great with other horses, dogs, sheep, chickens and farm stuff like tractors!
