He is bold and naturally fast across country, with a huge stride and an extravagant jump. He has very correct conformation, with excellent feet and straight movement. His bloodlines are full of courage, soundness, and stamina. Sam’s sire, WELTON DOUBLE CRACKER, is an international event horse. His grandsire, DOUBLE TRIGGER, was one of the outstanding long-distance racehorses of the last quarter-century, winning two Ascot Gold Cups and over £500,000 in prize money. His grand-dam, Baby Welton, was an Advanced event horse by the immortal WELTON CRACKERJACK.

Though he did not win any races as a two-year-old, he ran third in the Group One AJC Sires Produce Stakes. He found great success after turning three years old. After being unplaced in the Caulfield Guineas, he proved himself as one of the top Australian sprinters by winning the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate in February 2005.
