With an extremely heavy heart, I am looking for the very best home for my much-loved mare, Dakota, who I have owned for the past 2 years. This is a genuinely heartbreaking decision, but I know she would thrive with someone more experienced and suited to her needs.
Dakota is a 17-year-old, 13.2hh Exmoor cross mare with a huge personality and plenty of life left in her. She is barefoot on all four, a very good doer, and has so much to offer the right home. She has previously had a foal, so could also make a potential broodmare in the future.
Dakota has had an inconsistent education in the past and, because of this, she can occasionally become strong on the ground when worried. However, she is never nasty and does not bite or kick. The majority of the time she is perfectly well mannered, and she would flourish with a kind, confident and experienced owner who understands mares with character.
When I bought Dakota, I had hoped to focus on schooling and clinics, but it has become clear that she much prefers a quieter hacking lifestyle. She does not enjoy schooling or jumping and is happiest out exploring, so I feel she would be best suited to a hacking/companion home where she can truly enjoy herself.
Dakota loves hacking and is a sensible, fun ride. She will hack alone but definitely prefers company. She has never reared or bucked.
She is:
✔ Good to catch
✔ Good to clip
✔ Good for the vet, dentist and physio
✔ Good to load in a lorry
✔ Happy living in or out
✔ Respectful of fencing
✔ Fine with other horses and has previously lived in a mixed herd
She currently lives with one field mate but is also happy on her own provided she can see other horses. She is used to being stabled overnight.
Dakota is not a child’s pony as she can be strong at times, so she would best suit a small adult or confident rider wanting a fun hacking partner and companion rather than a competition pony.
Dakota absolutely knows her own mind and is full of character, making her a real one-of-a-kind pony who will be adored in the right home.
This is not a sale I ever imagined making, so finding the right home is far more important than a quick sale. Serious enquiries only, please.
