The Fairfax Gareth was developed with World and European medallist Gareth Hughes, who wanted a closer connection with his horse without losing the ability to give the subtlest aids. It's a monoflap, so you're close through the leg. The deep, forward seat sits you over your horse's centre of balance and encourages you to sit tall through the core. Riders often ask for this one by name, and it's easy to see why once you've sat in it.

Fit & feel

* 17" deep, forward seat with a narrow twist, sitting you over the horse's centre of balance

* Monoflap design, with a single layer of leather under the leg for close contact

* Medium fixed exterior knee block, giving steady support without locking your leg in place

* Three thicknesses of adjustable shoulder block: a thicker block brings the flap closer to your leg, and on a horse with uneven shoulders a fitter can use a thicker block on one side to help you sit square

* Wool-flocked half panel with a wide gullet channel and quarter front gussets, which a fitter can adjust to fine-tune the fit as your horse changes shape

* Changeable R-Bar gullet system (that's the "ADJ"), so a fitter can change the width anywhere from N/M up to XW/XXW

* Two girthing options, so your fitter can set up stability to suit your horse's shape and movement

* Squared-off cantle and black leather, handmade in Walsall

Fairfax designed the Gareth for horses with medium to high withers and some curve through the back, and it suits a rider who likes a deep, forward seat for dressage. The Fairfax Rebecca is the natural one to trial alongside it. It's built very closely to the Gareth but has a more compact seat, so trialling them back to back is a useful way to find out which seat shape you prefer.

As ever, that's a starting point for narrowing things down rather than a fit guarantee, so we'd recommend trialling it alongside an appointment with a fitter to see how it sits on your horse.
