Young riders fund
Each few months Horsemart.co.uk will be supporting a young rider hoping to make it to the top of their sport, through our Place an ad young riders scheme.
All advertisers will have the opportunity to donate £1 to a young rider when they place an ad to help them fund their training. We would like to consider riders from all Equestrian disciplines. If you are or know of someone who might be interested, please email kate.kidger@horsemart.co.uk and tell us your story!
This month we are raising money for Hannah Kelly, a carriage driver from Surrey. Here's a little bit about Hannah:
Hungary Here We Come………
18 year old Hannah Kelly from South Godstone in Surrey has been selected to be a member of the English Carriage Driving Team who will travel to Vecses, Hungary to take part in the Junior World Trophy 23-29 August 2010. About 130 competitors are expected from 10 nations. In 2008 England brought home the bronze medal so the pressure is on to improve on this in 2010.
Hannah who has been driving for 5 years, and her horse Stapleford Enchantment (Paddy) were selected at the end of a process that started in August 2009. There were lots of young drivers who were keen to take part so those who wanted to be selected had to compete at a number of specified events and go to the British Young Drivers training camps.
“The training is fun because you get to meet up with all your carriage driving friends without the pressure of competition” said Hannah. “Young drivers are spread all over the country so I regularly compete against adults at local events. Some of them get a bit cheesed off when the juniors beat them” laughs Hannah.
Stapleford Enchantment or Paddy to his friends is a 15.1hh Hackney Stallion, who has previously competed in Private driving, Trade, Hackney wagon, ridden dressage and ridden showing. Hannah has been competing Paddy in Horse driving trials for two years now at National and International competitions.
“Hungarians are very enthusiastic about horse sports in general and carriage driving in particular. The event will attract noisy crowds and there will be a great atmosphere” notes Hannah’s Mum (Sam Kelly ) who is groom/ bottle washer/ lorry driver. “This is a great family sport and each competitor needs a great team around them so all the family can get involved.”
The team is looking for sponsors to help with all aspects of the trip. Advertising space is available on team clothing and pony rugs. Anyone wishing to find out more about what the team can offer sponsors should contact Hannah for more details.
