    • Welsh D Gelding 15hh

Sebastian is a stunning Welsh Sec D Gelding with impeccable breeding, standing at 15hh. He was backed when he'd just turned 6yrs and turned away.

SCHOOLING – He was brought back into work/training about 18m ago when he'd turned 8yrs. He has since been out to pole work clinics, low-level endurance rides and sponsored rides. I’ve trailered him to ride out to places like Frensham and Hankley Common. Has three beautiful powerful paces, beginning to work in an outline and is starting to learn some lateral work in walk and trot. He is still green in and out of the school but well balanced in mind and body for his stage of education and does try his best to please. He is generally a happy medium - not too forward but not a plod either.

JUMPING – he has been over very low coloured and rustic fences around a dozen times in total. He's been to a Carl Belson clinic and was incredibly well behaved. He has a lovely attitude to jumping but needs someone more experienced to help him organise his legs and confidence. This is an area I know almost nothing about so I have only played for fun both on the lunge and under saddle. He’ll take a few minutes to warm up but this is just down to lack of experience and he begins to enjoy it thereafter. Too small and he will trot rather than jump over but once warmed up you can increase the height and he makes a lot more effort to jump. He hasn’t been strong to the jump, is polite and keeps good rhythm.

HACKING he is super but still a work in progress - he has experienced a lot of traffic and farm machinery in the last 18m but not a great deal previously. He can be a little anxious in busy urban areas and near fast roads. He has mainly hacked out alone with me and sometimes in the company of other horses. He is well behaved in woods and open spaces and very rarely spooks! He can still get anxious beside any fast roads with heavy lorries and transporters and can nap past it but has (so far) been easy to direct or channel into a shoulder-in manoeuvre. Seems to be a case of developing confidence because he is better in situations he understands. You can leave him for a week or two, saddle up and pick-up where you left off.

NB: he does have a mild tendency to be flighty - three attempts in last 18m; one I caught but the other two he caught me out while on a long rein – definitely lack of confidence up close to large vehicles.

ON THE GROUND he is soft as a puppy and very safe - never bitten or kicked. He loves people he's familiar with but can be suspicious of strangers initially. All up-to-date and good with farrier (barefoot), dentist and vet – loves a bath!

FIELD – very mature in the field and can graze with both mares and geldings. Is currently stripe-grazed and respects electric tape 95% of the time. Can be softly playful at times but not full on charging about.

STABLE – currently out by day and stabled at night. He likes his stable but if left in alone he can be a little chatty when the food runs out.

Sebastian would suit an all rounder home and someone that wants a lovely engaging horse. He is sensitive, responsive but sensible but since he is still green I would prefer him to go to a knowledgeable home. He has impeccable breeding and charisma and could do very well in showing classes.

This is a very hard decision and I truly do not want to let him go. He is only for sale because (despite his temperament and potential) I feel we’re not compatible. Will be sold with bridle and several rugs. He doesn’t have a saddle of his own yet as he is still building muscle tone. So he has been sharing my mare’s saddle.
