Equestrian Advice & Guides Beginners Advice
4 years old, born spring 2019. Standing at 13'2, bum measures 13'3. I've owned Rio since he was 6 months old and he has been handled everyday since. Rio is a very friendly chap, first over in the field and is thrifing from ridden work. Rio has been long reined by myself multiple times out hacking and in the school. We have lunged in walk and trot. Rio started his ridden career in April this year. He absolutely loves hacking and will take the lead out of choice. He has hacked both alone and in company. When out alone he does need reassurance from his rider if he meets something he's unsure of. I will be honest my lanes are fairly quiet but he has met tractors, cars, vans, bikes, walkers and dogs running behind him. Rio has cantered under saddle both infront and behind. Rio has put in a few moves with his back legs but never anything naughty. He has been in the school a handful of times, ridden in walk, trot and a few strides of canter. He is learning very quickly. Rio is great to lead whilst riding and he comes out with me once a week then in the school once a week also.
He is brilliant to load and travel both alone and in company. He is happy to be stabled alone whilst others go out. Regularly trimmed every 6-7 weeks and is complemented by the farrier for his strong feet. Rio is unshod and will wear front hoof boots out hacking as I have bumpy bridlepaths.
Rio is up to date with flu and tetanus, worming and will come with his bridle.
I have shown Rio in hand as a foal, yearling, 3 and 4 year old. He has placed everytime, winning his most recent classes.
I am looking for a home where Rio can reach his potential, he has so much to offer and with time and experience he will make someone a fabulous pony. Unfortunately I am far to big to ride him and I am paying for a rider. Please note Rio is not currently a children's pony due to his age and lack of experience.
