HOLNE DANDYDandy is a yearling (born 1-06-18) Dartmoor Hill Pony. Standing at 11hh at the wither and very bum high, guessing will make 12.2-13hh.
Dandy is an absolute sweetheart with a real willing nature, he has had a few months handling from coming from the moor and in that time has been to a show in which his behaviour was absolutely impeccible. Stands to be brushed and plaited. Was trimmed today by the farrier infront and other than a bit of babyness wondering why there was a strange man doing funny things with his feet, was not nasty at all.
Dandy has gone from hiding behind others to being first to come over in the field and giving you a nuzzle and some love. He is coming on in leaps and bounds and with further education and love he is going to be an absolute corker of a pony. Again at the show the judge did not believe his amount of handling with his such chilled nature both inside and outside the ring.
I keep a headcollar on for ease however he's like a labrador with food so can be caught straight away. I take his headcollar completely off to change into a slip bridle and he doesn't move an inch. He loads after a few minutes of being allowed to have a look (onto a very steep loading LDV lorry conversion) so will probably be even quicker into a trailer that isn't so much like a mountain to climb!
He has been out on the main road next to us (40mph and usually no chance of a car slowing at all let alone passing wide) and he didn't flinch once, even with a huge artic right behind him waiting to pass with air breaks going off.
Great and inquisitive with children. I have a 4 year old child who knows who to act accordingly around youngstock and he will always walk to him for a sniff and a scratch.
He's out 24/7 naked on no feed as a hardy dartmoor hill pony should. Today was the first the he was ever shod and the farrier hardly had to take any off so should be an easy doer in that respect also.
Lives with a mare and a gelding, will move when he's told to and has fantastic field manners. Never bargy or rude and hugely respects electric tape fencing. (Even just one strand at 3ft height keeps him in).
He has obviously not bombproof being a yearling who hasn't been handled a huge amount so still does have lots to learn, however with his hugely willing nature and not a nasty bone in his body, as well as his extreme quietness out competing I truely think he's going to be an absolute fantastic character for the future.
