Liam Neeson Is Convinced The Horse He’s Working With Remembers Him

Irish actor Liam Neeson is convinced that a horse he is working with, in his new movie The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, knew exactly who he was from working with him in another Hollywood film.

The 66-year-old is starring in the new movie with Brendan Gleeson and James Franco.

Liam Neeson was delighted when the horse on set remembered him from shooting together previously.

He said: “I play a travelling impresario. We filmed in New Mexico. The odd thing is the horse who pulls my wagon knew me. You won’t believe it. I’m saying this horse knew me. He actually remembered me from another Western we made a while back. I love animals. When we worked together before I took special care of him. I fed him treats. Gave him apples.”

When Neeson was asked how he knew that the horse remembered him he said: “He whinnied when he saw me and pawed the ground.”

Neeson is a horse lover both on and
off set, but in 2013 enraged animal activists after blasting plans to have horse-drawn carriages banned in New York’s Central Park.

The actor said that the ban put an ‘entire way of life and historic industry’ under threat.

He said: “As a horse lover, I grew up riding and caring for two horses every summer on my aunt’s small farm in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland. I have continued to enjoy working with horses in a professional context over the years, appearing in a couple of Westerns.”

“I can appreciate a happy and well-cared-for horse when I see one. It has been my experience, always, that horses, much like humans, are at their happiest and healthiest when working.”

“Horses have been pulling from the beginning of time. It is what they have been bred to do.”
