After a tragic road traffic accident in Paraiba, Brazil, took the life of Wagner Figueiredo de Lima, several friends and family gathered for his funeral.

Lima and his horse, Sereno, had grown inseparable over the time they had spent together. Lima’s brother, Wando, thought it would only be right that Sereno was involved in the send-off of his owner.

Nobody could believe what happened next!

When the van arrived, carrying the coffin, Sereno knew that the coffin held his beloved owner, Lima.

“Sereno began to walk around the coffin, smelling the coffin. Then he neighed.”

“It was a very strong emotion. Everyone who was there was moved. I cried myself when I saw that scene.”

Wando said the horse gave the impression he knew what was going on. He wanted to say his goodbye. Sereno walked alongside other mourners as they made their way to Lima’s final resting place.

“This horse was everything to Lima.”

It was obvious that Sereno was distraught, Wando told Global News. He whimpered and stomped his hooves all the way to the cemetery.

Did Sereno really know he was saying goodbye to his owner? One thing’s for sure, Sereno misses his human companion immensely.
