This upsetting image shows the body of an abandoned, starved horse dumped on the side of the road like a ‘piece of rubbish’.

After hearing the horrifying news last week of a pregnant horse left on the side of the road, Horsemart  are distraught to hear the latest concern.

In the last few days the RSPCA have been called after a young mare was found tied to a fence near a busy road in Yorkshire.

The inspectors for the RSPCA who discovered the mare at the scene believe that the horse was also seriously neglected before she passed away, due to the condition of her corpse.

An investigator for the organisation - Claire Mitchell said the treatment of the horse was "horrifying" and has now urged anyone with any information to come forward. She said: "This is such an upsetting case. This poor horse deserved to be treated better than this. It is horrifying that she has just been dumped like rubbish.

"It is so incredibly callous. She was so thin, there is no doubt she was severely neglected while she was alive.

"She was so emaciated you could see every bone in her body. "It is awful to even think of the amount of suffering she must have gone through in her short life. It is utterly heartbreaking."

What the RSPCA were not able to find out however, was whether the horse had been tied up or not before its death. Inspector Mitchell added: "We do not know if this horse was still alive when she was dumped there - but we do know she had not been cared for.

"We would urge anyone who might have seen anything or know where she has come from to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
