ELANDRO HZ, Stable name: Andy. 16.2hh 9yo Zangersheide Belgian Warmblood Gelding with exceptional showjumping bloodlines. Andy has been in same home for 18months and has been competing at showjumping, dressage and done some in-hand showing. He has very low mileage for his age this is due to having suspensory ligament surgery and being allowed time to fully recover and time spent undergoing a thorough rehabilitation programme. This has meant he has been given the best chance of a fulfilled and long career. The surgery followed identification of lesions, he was however never lame and has never been lame (with the exception of an abscess). He has a good strong back and clean limbs, no bumps or swellings. Andy is a fantastic showjumper who really knows his job, a point and go horse, and he is very careful and does not knock jumps down. He is currently jumping 90cm-1.0m courses, he has scope to go higher with ease however due to previous surgery he should be limited to 1.10m courses. He has been competing up to Novice level dressage with current owner, he does a lovely test but there is room for improvement. Andy is a joy to school, he learns well and is always well behaved (with the exception of the odd spook) and his only fault is he can get a little behind the leg. He has limited experience XC schooling and has a tendency to overjump, so this is an area of his education that would require some attention. He is very good at lunging, long reining, pole work and stretching exercises. Temperament wise he can be anxious and excitable but remains well-mannered and easy to ride; he doesn’t barge, bite or kick and is well used to children and dogs running around (including a Lurcher, GSD and Chihuhua). He responds best with a firm but fair handler and does not respond well to aggressive behaviour or shouting.
Good points: Good to catch, handle, load (trailer and horsebox), travel, farrier, dentist, vet, traffic. Doesn’t need riding every day, doesn’t get hot or fizzy. Ok to clip and bath but can be fidgety. Well behaved at shows but can be fidgety while tied up but does not pull back and break free.
Not so good points: Better hacking in company, will hack alone but can be challenging if spooked by something and can spin, will do this slowly but can lift front legs as he spins. Can be scared of whips and has reacted badly to rider mounting while carrying schooling whip. Current owner feels he does not have the brain for hunting although has not tested this. Can be a fidget bum at times. Gets too attached to mares and is best not turned out with or next door to them. Doesn’t like to be left alone in field or stable. Can take a couple of weeks to settle in new environment but once he knows the routine he is happy stabled at day or night; or turned out 24/7.
Who he would suit: Someone experienced and confident looking for a fairly easy competition horse that they can school and compete with no dramas. Someone not bothered by the odd spook but doesn't want a horse with behavioural issues. Ideally someone that wants to do show jumping 80-1.10m and/or dressage up to Elementary. Andy would not suit anyone nervous or novice, or someone wanting to Hunt.
Up to date with vaccinations, worming, dentist (this has been recommended every 6months) and physio. Lots of photos and videos available on request. Multiple viewings welcomed, including trial at competition venue. Open to vetting. Only for sale due to financial reasons he is very loved in his current home and owner will do best to ensure he goes only to the right long-term home. Can be sold with tack, including an extensive rug collection but not saddle.
