This is Fred my 12yr Irish sports horse approx 16.1hh, I purchased Fred roughly a year and half ago from a company called Cattybrook horses who state they sell safe horses suited to nervous, novice or disabled riders and their prices reflect this- please feel free to look at their website to see that (we paid a lot of money for this horse)
On buying Fred I was told he had no vices his only issue being bone spavin in his left hock, this is medicated once a year at a cost of roughly £250 it doesn’t restrict him in any way & I am happy for any one interested in Fred to speak to my vet and see his records ( his hock has just been medicated last week of July 2018 so he’s up to date for the next year)
Fred was meant to be my step up from my steady cob & Cattybrook were told of my riding ability and that he would be kept at my stables with only my cob for company, it soon became apparent that Fred has separation issues. He becomes very stressed if my cob is taken away from him & he is left alone and will often jump the electric fence and follow! He is quite happy to be led away from her, he stands nicely to be groomed and tacked up he only becomes stressed when she is taken away from him and he is left alone.
I feel my environment is not fair on Fred & he should be on a busy livery yard with lots of horses so he is never alone for him to be happy. Fred is good be stabled as long and other are to he’s not happy being stabled alone.
Fred can be hacked on the buckle in company but needs a confident rider to hack alone because he will try and nap, he is perfect passing all traffic and is regularly hacked down main roads. Fred is always snaffle mouthed and not at all strong he can be galloped across open fields and easily pulled up.
Fred loves to jump (I’m not very good at this) he can get a little excited and throw a little buck never anything big and has never unseated me.
He is shod every 7 wks and my farrier said he has good feet, he is up to date with everything, wormer, vacs ect.
He can sometimes need food to encourage him into the trailer, saying that it has never taken me more than 10 mins to load him and he travels perfectly.
I really feel he is not happy in my environment with only my mare and I would love for him to find a home where he will be on a busy yard with lots of company.
Home is more important than price. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
