Fred is a 15’1 Connemara 11 yo grey gelding up for full loan to move yards. He will not be going to anyone under the age of 16.
We are based around Birmingham and we would ideally like him within 2 hours from us.
He is the sweetest gentleman and is very much loved by us. The reason for the loan is that he is not up to compete at the level my daughter is wanting to meaning we have brought another. However, Fred will always remain our best boy!
Before we bought Fred he had evented to a level which unfortunately created some problems for us- he has arthritis in his hocks however 2 months ago he was treated with Arthramid and had 3 rounds of shockwave therapy. This has done him great- this was originally done in hope he could still compete, which we now feel wouldn’t keep him as comfortable as he is now.
Currently, we feel Fred will be best suited to a confident hacker, someone who wants to do light schooling and the odd jump once a month, perfect for someone who wants a best friend- please no one who hasn’t ridden for a while, a novice or someone just getting back into riding.
Fred loves his hacking- he hacks alone and in company but does prefer to be nearer to the front, he will not make a fuss if he isn’t however he is a fast walker! He can be excited on hacks (he is a lot better in the summer) however he is not silly and would never bolt off, has never bucked- he can have a a bunny hop or a dance around this his feet and occasionally a big rear an experienced rider is needed to push him through this but he will get over himself.
He’s not the spooky type but occasionally he will have a look but will only stop and look and won’t carry it on through the ride. He is snaffle mouthed always. He will canter quietly through an open field/beach and come back to you when you ask, hack past machinery, cows, dogs- my 15 year old daughter has been hacking him out for over 2 years. Hacking multiple hours a week would really suit Fred however we do feel he benefits from structure in the school.
He is a dream in the school however it is not his favourite place and due to his arthritis will come out stiff however does loosen up. Since coming back into work we have not been focusing on his schooling as much.
He is also straightforward to jump however we really don’t feel he would suit anymore than 1 jump a month at a low hight.
He is a safe ride, very much more slow than go in the school, but due to his limitations we do not want children getting on and off him.
He is a dream to do in every way, will stand for hours being groomed and will rest his head in your lap, is perfect for the farrier and to be clipped, he will travel in a trailer/van/lorry… he is currently going out in the day and coming in at night and this is what we feel suits him best.
