Calypso is looking for her forever home and owner- someone completely unphased by her size and quirky behaviour. This home must be an experienced home where she can be guaranteed routine and regular work .
She’s is a typical mare who needs firm but very caring handling and clear boundaries. She enjoys working and constantly wants to please, 6/7 days of the week. She is a gentle giant however if In a Calypso mood, she can sometimes become more challenging and all of a sudden seem double the size but don’t let this phase you.
She will always ask the question if she thinks she can get away with something : if she can get away without wearing a fly mask she most definitely will, however if she is shown who’s boss she will soon give up.
An experienced home is vital as Calypso can be quite sensitive at times. She takes time to settle into new surroundings and so she can find moving homes stressful at first.
She has been with me for 2 years and during this time I have spent time schooling her, perfecting her manners and exploring the countryside on rides as long as 14 miles- due to this I have always had her fully shod.
Most recently she has been ridden by an 18 year old girl. She loves a good gallop when given the chance but at the time will plod around all day long. She’s always well behaved when in company and will walk anywhere in the line however when hacking alone she can sometimes feel tense and is often a little nervous to start with. This can be seen through napping and the occasional strop but with a few minutes of reassurance is back to her normal self again. Shes completely unafraid of all traffic. She’s a VERY honest mare and will always tell you if she’s unhappy - this must not be mistaken for bad behaviour, but instead appreciated for her honesty.
She has lots of Potential to be a super dressage horse, she has done this in previous homes however not whilst she’s been with me so this would need touching up. Calypso strongly dislikes jumping and this was the reason for her sale from her previous home therefore a jumping home would not be suitable for her. She has done two sponsored rides with me and found loading into a trailer rather scary, if she is to travel- she much prefers to load into a lorry rather than trailer as she has much more space so she feels less trapped.
Her ground manners are impeccable and she’s unphased by dogs and children however she’s very sharp and agile so this should be considered at all times. She doesn’t have a nasty bone in her body, she’s completely honest, loyal and always grateful of your time. An absolute sweetheart! Only reason for sale is I have 2 other horses and work commitments which takes up my time which she needs ...Read full description
