Create my profile now!We teamed up with equestrian clothing brand Aztec Diamond and sent some of our brand ambassadors some core pieces from the Aztec collection to test and review. Meg and Lauren from Hesteyri Horses were each sent a Base Layer to try out. Here’s what they thought...
We loved the look of these on first impressions; despite the fact that neither of us would normally go for the khaki colour, it was really smart, and the navy was gorgeous!
Our base layers did three full days of work before being reviewed; this included washing jumps, moving jumps and jumping jumps – both on horses and on foot! It also involved mucking out, grooming, doing haynets, hacking out and a myriad of other duties involved in the day to day running of a busy schooling yard.
We would definitely recommend these to a friend. They kept us cool when it was hot, and warm when it was cold – we definitely tested this out as we were jumping on a rather warm day. They look really stylish, with really smart detailing. The zip at the neck is a great idea, as normally base layers are quite tight around the neck, and they were so comfortable for wearing on the yard.
One small niggle was that the khaki one rode up a little during wear!
Ease of use:
5/5 – There isn’t really much "difficulty" in wearing a base layer but it's comfortable and the zip is useful.
Comfort:
4/5 – It's perfect as a skin, very insulative. Unfortunately, it rides up a little bit, so I can’t give the full five stars as it has to be pulled down regularly.
Quality:
4/5 – The logo has cracked just a tiny bit on the arms.
Appearance:
5/5 – Just so gorgeous, we can’t even explain how nice it looks. We wouldn’t usually go for khaki but it looks great!
True to size:
4/5 – We can only imagine it's a size issue that is causing it to ride up, as it hasn't done this with the navy. I'm normally a size Medium, which is what I took in this base layer, so we would have expected it to be the right fit. It feels perfect other than that.
Ease of use:
5/5 – The zip turns it from a smart riding top to a cross country top, which makes it more versatile.
Comfort:
5/5 – It fits like a glove and feels really streamlined and non-restrictive. I went running with one of the ponies while wearing it and felt great.
Quality:
4/5 – The quality is great but they aren’t the most durable because they are competition wear, which is fine but we would love a slightly more durable one for everyday use as we adore them! The logo has cracked slightly but this doesn't affect the base layer in any way (even aesthetically because you can’t see the cracks until you get up close).
Appearance:
5/5 – I love the way it looks and I'm not even embarrassed to wear it around town!
True to size:
5/5 – I’m usually a size 4-6 and the Extra Small fitted perfectly.
These Aztec Diamond Base Layers are fantastic bits of kit and we would absolutely love to wear them cross country or, in fact, to pretty much any event or clinic. They look so smart and we're really enjoying wearing them. Plus, Aztec Diamond also offer a range of riding leggings in matching colours so you can really look the part!
