My Favourite Summer Riding Gloves... Reviewed!

After finding myself with gloves that had more holes in than Swiss Cheese I thought that it was about time I bought myself a new pair of summer riding gloves. But where do you begin? There are so many different types of gloves on the market these days that it can be difficult to decide which ones are going to work best for you.

Today, I will talk you through my two favourite pairs of “summer” gloves and how they performed when I put them to the test.

Roeckl Roeck-Grip Riding Gloves

First up, we have the Roeckl Roeck-Grip Riding Gloves, a glove that I use mostly for competition riding due to it’s smart synthetic leather exterior. However, over the last few weeks I have put the gloves to the endurance test, using them for an array of disciplines, from Hacking to Dressage to Cross Country.

I have been incredibly impressed with these gloves overall. I already knew how comfortable they were from competing in them for the last 4 years, but for a glove that feels like a second layer of skin, they have been very durable whilst riding, they haven’t rubbed my fingers (which I have experienced with other gloves in the past) and still look like new.

I decided the best time to test the glove out whilst hacking would be on a 2/2.5 hour hack around our local national trust woods. We experienced both very hot weather – where the gloves kept my hands cool nicely – to torrential rain. Something that I feel is worth mentioning about these gloves is that even in incredibly wet weather, whether you're in a dressage test or out on a hack, they never feel slippery on the reins, something that I feel is a very important quality in a competition glove!

Next, I tested them out whilst I went cross country schooling, as this gave them more friction between the reins than just using them whilst out hacking. Again, I was very impressed with how the gloves stood up to the challenge and have bought myself another pair to be used for everyday riding, as well as the set I already use to compete in. They retail for around £29.99.

It's worth mentioning that I have found these gloves tend to come up quite tight. Now, I prefer that, especially whilst competing, but it may be worth baring this in mind if you are purchasing them online. I would always recommend you popping into your local tack shop, if they have them, to try before you buy.

SXC Sportsline 2.0 Gloves

The second set of gloves that I want to talk about are the SXC Sportsline 2.0 Gloves. I have had several people say that they had seen these gloves and wanted to try them, so I thought, why not buy a pair to see what I think and to test them out for everyone. I went for the Grey and Rose Gold colour options as I thought it would be fun to add a little colour to my everyday wardrobe.

Again, these gloves have really impressed me, they are lightweight with a silicone grip on the palm and rein fingers, a mesh panel on the top of the hand to increase breathability and touch screen compatible fingers.

Having tested these out on hot hacks, schooling and show jumping, I would certainly recommend a pair for your wardrobe! They are attractive gloves that provide a good amount of protection whilst still looking stylish. They are very durable and I found that no matter what discipline I was doing, they kept my hands cool and rub-free. They come in a variety of colours, including black with white piping incase you wanted to have them as competition gloves too. These gloves retail for around £25.99 and I have found that they fit true to size.
