HONOR Band 5 Smart Watch / Fitness Tracker - Product Review

I'm reviewing something a little different today... I wanted to find a product that I could wear whilst riding to help me safely see texts and phone calls without having to get my phone out of my pocket each time.

As much as I would love to buy an Apple Watch, I was apprehensive about spending £400 plus on a device that I had no idea whether I would use or even like using. So, I started my search for a product that offered similar abilities without the high price tag.

It is a minefield out there when it comes to smart watches, so I spent a few days looking into each one and taking the reviews into consideration. Eventually, I decided upon the HONOR Band 5. Coming in at a price of £27.99 on Amazon (as of the 8th September 2020), it was a steal compared to its expensive Apple counterpart.

Now, as you would expect, the cheaper price tag does mean that some features are not included that may be available on slightly pricier smart watches, one of which is the fall protection that the Apple Watch offers – this would certainly come in handy if you were going to be hacking a lot alone. But, the watch itself can track steps, workouts, heart rates and sleep patterns. In addition to this, you can see who is calling, cancel incoming calls if you are busy (or riding), and read texts or messages from all major social media platforms.

Something that's worth mentioning at this point is that you cannot reply to texts or answer calls like you can with an Apple Watch or some of the more expensive smart watches. However, as a starter watch, I've been incredibly impressed with what it offers and how useful it has been, not only whilst riding but in general day to day life too.

The watch is water resistant up to 50 meters, meaning you can be caught in a heavy shower whilst out hacking and it will still work... you even swim in it should you wish. The battery can last up to 14 days on one charge and for those of you who often misplace your phone, the HONOR Band 5 also offers a ‘find my phone’ option!

It comes in 3 colours – Coral Pink, Navy and Black – and connects to your phone via bluetooth. This does mean that your watch needs to be relatively close to your phone in order to pick up notifications; I have found that it still works throughout the house but once I am more than 10-15m away it notifies me that the bluetooth connection has been lost. All the other functions continue to work once the watch is out of area and it will automatically re-connect once it is back in range of your phone.

Having used the watch for a few weeks now, I can safely say that I have been suitably impressed with it and I will be continuing to use it whilst working and riding for the foreseeable future. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the product, simply contact me on any of my social media platforms.
