Horses Electrocuted By Power Lines Left Hanging In Field By Thieves
Four horses were electrocuted after coming into contact with high voltage cables that were left hanging dangerously low to a farmers field by thieves.
The horses all died after wandering into the cables.
The distressing scene was found on Sunday afternoon and reported straight away to Northern Powergrid.
The horses were unable to be removed immediately from the area which caused a prolonged upset. The horses were found in a field on the outskirts of Redmarshall Village, near Stockton.
It is thought that no arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident but a £1,000 reward is being offered to anyone who is able to provide useful information that may lead to a conviction.
A Northern Powergrid spokeswoman said: "We isolated power supplies in the area following reports from the public and emergency repairs have been made to our network. Interfering with a live electricity network is both highly dangerous and illegal. The actions of these criminals have caused the tragic death of four innocent animals and our thoughts are with their owners."
Northern Powergrid added: "Through our partnership with the charity Crimestoppers, a reward of up to £1,000 is available to anyone who has information that could lead to a conviction of the people behind this crime.”
