Grandmother Aged 73 Kills 12 Foot Alligator After It Ate Her Miniature Horse
Judy Cochran aged 73 killed a 12 foot alligator on Sunday 16th September at her Texas ranch, after it ate her miniature horse.
She took down the 580 pound gator with a single shot, Judy said she had been after the alligator for 3 years because she suspected it had eaten her miniature horse.
'We think this is the gator that ate one of our miniature horses several years ago. As big as this gator was, he could've easily eaten it,' she told the Houston Chronicle. Typically the gators don't bother us but we've been looking for this one. Don't mess with Nana.'
The pond where Cochran killed the 12 foot alligator is the same place where her five year old grandson shot dead an alligator nine years ago back in 2009.
She killed the gator with her Winchester, 22 Magnum and she plans to mount the head and display the ridge-back part of the tail in her office.
Cochran who became the Mayor of Livingston in May, says that her hunt was ethical and where she lives, in a place called Polk County is one of 12 in Texas that have a season for hunting alligators.
The season runs between 10th September and the 30th. All hunters need permits and tags. The alligator must also be caught on a hook before it can be killed.
