Friend Raises Money For Man Who Lost His Horse In Trailer Fire
Losing a beloved animal is absolutely heartbreaking, and is made so much worse when you’ve done everything you can to try and save them.
Jaisen Von Ballmoos travels with six horses to equine competitions. On Tuesday 2nd October his trailer caught alight when he was little more than 10 miles from his destination.
Von Ballmoos was travelling to a national horse competition in Oklahoma. Video footage shows the trailer going up in flames.
“There was flames going up; the smoke you can see, and he literally jumped over them to get in front of them to get them out,” family friend Molly Magoon said.
Von Ballmoos suffered from burns and bruised ribs in the fight to save his horses. He managed to save five but sadly one horse died in the fire.
“I think at the end of the day, it just shows how heroic Jaisen was,” Magoon said.
Magoo cancelled her holiday plans and flew out to help the family. She also went on to create a GoFundMe account to help with medical and travelling costs for both Von Ballmoos and his remaining five horses.
The page she set up was a success and raised more than $14,000 in less than 24 hours.
“When something like this happens in the horse industry, they really band together and support each other,” she said.
“They have a lot of burns on their face and their nostrils, so we’re really just keeping an eye out on their lungs and tending to those wounds,” Magoon said.
