Hi, I’m Edward Chitty,
I’m a listed British Dressage judge and a UKCC L2 Showjumping coach.
Here is a bit about me:
Unusually I don’t come from a horsey family, I started riding when I was 6 after I got bored watching my brother and have never stopped since.
My current horse, together with my brother trained from nothing to competing in show jumping in both affiliated and unaffiliated competitions with great success. Due to injuries, she had to have a break from jumping and this is when I gained my interest in dressage, I have always enjoyed schooling horses and schooling the movements required in dressage was a great way to keep motivation up when not jumping. My horse took to flying changes, producing great one time changes.
Once my horse was retired I focussed more on judging and coaching. I started my training to become a British Dressage judge in April and 4 months later after many exams and lots of travel, I am now a listed judge. I judge at both affiliated and unaffiliated competitions. This summer I also worked on gaining my UKCC L2 with British Show Jumping, this meant I had to provide a big portfolio of lessons that I had given as well as undertaking numerous training days, however, all the hard work has been worthwhile now that I’m qualified.
When I’m not around horses I study Mathematics at King’s College London and help run the equestrian club for which I’m vice president and treasurer. This is my second year competing for King’s in BUCS competitions and it has been successful.
I currently teach at an equestrian centre on Sunday mornings (when I’m not judging) and on a freelance basis in and around Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. I also ride and compete clients horses in all disciplines.
I’m delighted to become a brand ambassador for Horsemart. I hope to provide you with informative training advice and exercises to help you gain more marks in the dressage arena or get that clear round while jumping.
Until next time,
