Crash In Western Germany Leaves Horse Dead On Car Bonnet
A horrific accident took place in Western Germany on Thursday 18th October at around 7:30 pm according to police.
The incident was reported on Friday by German media, where a horse smashed through the windscreen of a Volkswagon Golf and died at the scene.
A 57-year-old woman from Versmold near Bielefeld was driving her VW Golf from a small village in Gutersloh when she noticed a car approaching her with their hazard lights switched on but she couldn't see the two horses, a mare and a pony, that were galloping towards her beside the vehicle.
Once she realised, it was too late and she was unable to avoid them. She collided with both horses, leaving the pony injured, but still able to run away and the mare dead after smashing through her windscreen. Unfortunately, the mare died at the scene on the bonnet of the car.
The driver was left injured and was taken to hospital in Gütersloh following the incident.
The pony was later caught by rescuers following the ordeal and taken to an animal clinic for further treatment.
The damage to the car is estimated to cost around 10,000 euros and the car was towed away.
