Blue Cross Horses Are Looking For A Loving Home

Owning a horse takes a lot of time and dedication in order to be able to provide the right amount of care.

The Blue Cross Equine Centre looks after horses who are without a home, through no fault of their own. The equestrian centre is located on Dovecliff Road, Rolleston.

Blue Cross cares for horses that have been in all sorts of positions, from being abandoned in the street, or unwanted by owners who have taken on more than they could handle.

During their time at Blue Cross the team nurses the horses back to health, trains them up and finds them a place to call home.

There are currently 48 horses looking to find a home on the Blue Cross site.

Horses shouldn't be trained to be ridden until at least four years old and the centre sees a lot of health problems in horses where they have been ridden earlier the four years old.

Unless health or training reasons don't allow, the centre tries to keep the animals in the wild or in a herd as much as possible.

Here are two horses who are currently looking for homes at Blue Cross:

Horses

Prince Charming

As the name suggests, this 13-year-old is a real charmer.

He is looking for a home as a companion horse after a troubled past. Prince was found emaciated and had to be held up with strings.

He also had infected gums which meant he was struggling to eat but after having dental work he is now a lot healthier and happy.

Horses

April

Four-year-old April is a real character and is looking for a home as a project pony.

She is lucky to be alive after coming to the rescue centre from a vet where she was a weak and emaciated foal but is now progressing well, walking and trotting.

She has also been lightly sat on by a rider.

April has been to Equifest this year and won a rosette and is described as a sweet little mare who will make a great lead rein or all-round riding pony.
