Woman Rides Horse For The First Time At Age 92

A lady who is aged 92 and living in a care home was finally granted her wish to ride a horse for the first time.

Dot Bayley, the elderly woman, was lucky enough to have the staff at the RMBI Home Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, located in
Stisted, Essex, arrange for her to fulfil her wishes.

They arranged for Dot to visit nearby Rayne Riding Centre where she rode for the first time on pony TJ.

Dot and the other residents in the same nursing home were visited by therapy ponies which is when the home activities coordinator, Dani Lane became aware of Dots desire to one day ride a horse.

“We had ponies come into the home and the residents were able to meet them and stroke them,” Dani explained.

“Later, when we were going around asking residents if there were any activities they would like to try, Dot surprised us all by saying she wanted to ride. I asked my manager if it was possible and she said it was something we could do.”

Dots immediate family were worried about her capability of being able to get on a horse as she normally uses a wheelchair to move over larger distances, but Dot was determined.

“She told them she would never speak to them again if they didn’t let her ride!”

Dot was carefully assisted when getting on to the horse and was then able to enjoy her first ever horse ride with her two daughters, granddaughter and two great-grandchildren watching.

“She had such a nice time, she was loving it, when she got back to the home she was joking and telling all the other residents that she had galloped around the paddock.”

Dot is the first person ever to have asked to ride a horse in the care home and is already asking when she can visit the riding school again.
