Abandoned Horse Owner Comes Forward
A 12-year-old horse, named ‘Sky’ by a veterinarian’s daughter, was found in an awful state. She was described as thin, in poor shape with open abscesses on her neck, swelling on her abdomen and chest, and some abrasions on her back.
Santa Barbara County Animal Services said that the owner of the horse who was abandoned near Santa Maria has been identified. The animal service published on Facebook on Wednesday that the horse's owner and the person responsible for her state and dumping came forward earlier that morning.
Sky was found on Thursday 18th October in the 6000 block of Dominion Road.
The case was reported to the Animal Services after a member of the public saw someone unload the horse from the trailer and drive away quickly, trying not to be seen.
The previous owner came forward and relinquished the horse to the shelter. Animal Services cannot currently give any more information as it is an active investigation.
Thankfully the Animal Services has reported that Sky is on the mend and is healing well. She is expected to make a full recovery. The Animal Servicesare also pleased to announce that Sky is available for adoption, so if you can give her a loving and caring home they why not apply?
