How To Clean Your Saddle

Hi, I'm Abi from the Tallan School of Equitation and I'm going to show you how to clean a saddle.

Okay, first of all, there are two ways you can do it. You can do the quick way, which is where you just simply take the girth off and run the stirrups down.

Get your sponge under a little bit of warm water. You just want the sponge to be slightly damp, you don't want to wet the saddle because otherwise, it's bad for the leather. So justdamp your sponge in warm water and give it a quick wipe all over.

Don't forget to lift under the saddle flaps and girth straps. Then with a dry sponge, get your saddle soap, put a little bit of saddle soap on, not too much and then just rub it on so you can get a nice shine but not too much or else you're going to make it greasy.

Then for days when you want to get it really nice and clean perhaps for a show, you can just pop off your Stirrup leathers. Detach the Stirrup from the leather and pop theses in some warm water. Sometimes you can get a little hard brush or even a little toothbrush and give them a good scrub. Then again use warm water and a damp sponge all over your saddle. Then use a dry sponge and saddle soap, again, all over but pay extra attention in getting underneath any flaps and underneath the saddle flap. Do your girth straps thoroughly and then your saddle’s clean and ready to go to your show.
