    • Bonnie a 16.2h, 8 year old, bay Thoroughbred mare for sale

I have come to the heartbreaking decision to sell my horse Bonnie. Were it not for a change in circumstances she would not be going anywhere.

Bonnie is a 16.2h, 8 year old, bay Thoroughbred mare but does not behave like your typical Thoroughbred. Due to being bred for jump racing she has a good amount of bone and having raced also qualifies for RoR.

Bonnie is a pleasure to own and spent the last 6 months at university with me in Essex where she was loved by the whole yard and anyone who met her. She is happy to live in or out (which she is currently doing) and will stand to be groomed, bathed, and is never strong or bolshie. Once you have built a bond with her and she trusts you she will do anything you ask of her.

Since I’ve owned Bonnie I have done a lot of hacking, schooling and have popped the odd jump. She is coming along well with her schooling and is beginning to work in a more consistent contact but it is becoming easier for her the more she does. She is very responsive from the leg into walk, trot, and canter but can be a bit of a plod. I have started teaching her leg yield and turn on the forehand, both of which she picked up very quickly and I have found that it is like this for everything I teach her.
Due to lack of ability and confidence in myself I have never jumped her more than 70/80cm but know she can jump higher as I’ve had friends who have jumped her and she was taken hunting and cross-country schooling with her previous owners. She is never strong or silly when jumping but does go up a gear as it’s something she enjoys.
Bonnie is an absolute pleasure to hack and when we were in Essex we used to go out for hours on end. She will go out alone or in company, is happy to go first of last when in a group and will always keep to their pace if asked. She is unfazed by traffic and I’ve never had a problem hacking her past cars, vans, bikes, cyclists, tractors, combines, and even arctic lorries. She doesn’t get hot or fizzy in open spaces and will happily stick at the pace that you want but I have taken her out for long canters and gallops and have never had a problem stopping or reducing speed. She is snaffle mouthed at all times due to her having a soft mouth and never being strong enough to need anything more.

She is currently barefoot behind and is a lot happier like this. She could go without on the front depending what she would be doing as she has very strong feet.
She is good to load, travel, with the vet, and farrier but she may need to be twitched or sedated to have back shoes put on as we think she may have been caught with a nail at some point however she is good with the fronts and with a trim.

Although Bonnie can be hacked and ridden by a novice as she is very forgiving she needs an experienced and competent rider to continue her education but she will make a fantastic, fun and competitive horse for whoever this person may be. I’m unsure how she will behave around young children because we have no young children at the yard.

Bonnie has a fitted Kent and Masters saddle as well as a complete and extensive wardrobe, most of which she will come with.
I am absolutely devastated at having to make this decision so please no time wasters, loans with view to or loans.
