please read carefully.
This guy is as laid back as they come, was purchased for a total beginner 6'5" gentleman who wanted to learn to ride, Fergil looked after him like a true gent, he is a strong weight carrier.
Fergil has stringhalt, it causes no problems whatsoever, he does not snatch or stamp and it has no effect on his ridden work, it’s purely neurological and only noticeable when he's stood about or asked to move backwards. He was shod all round but now is barefoot and has good hard feet that would only need shoeing if he massively increased the roadwork.
He's as close to bombproof as you could ask any horse to be, he's taken novices hunting, been used as a hireling, hacked on main roads, open fields, can be left for months and is fine to get straight on, will winter in happily, will carry a child or large gent with equal manners and as you usually expect with stringhalt; he is an extremely talented jumper.
If you don't know what stringhalt is please ask, yes he's the perfect horse, yes it would be better if he didn't have it but he has. No point viewing him and then saying you love him but he has stringhalt - I know.
He's easy to turn out, lead, clip, trim, box, bath, lunge - you name it and he does it like a pro. He isn't at all spooky or sharp and switches to donkey mode when you put a novice on. Equally if you see him prance round the field he can pull off a really impressive extended trot so there's moves in there if you want to demand them. For the last 2 years he's only hacked and gone in the school now & then for a trot round or a few jumps, he's always an angel even when the other horses are galloping around in the field next to him whether there's a novice or pro on board.
He loves food but he's quite a good do-er and low maintenance to keep, he's sociable with other horses, he's happy in a mixed herd, doesn’t touch fencing and is happy to be in or out.
He's an impeccably bred Holsteiner bred in Italy by the famous Canturo but he's no oil painting, quite typically of the breed he has stringhalt and an amazing jump, he would showjump or hunt or hack all day long but he's not a show pony and I think pure dressage would be stretching his image a bit. I call him the dinosaur and it suits him. He does have a lovely kind eye and cute face, he's quite a narrow build but has a good deep chest and bone for days.
No quirks or vices, the odd small scar here and there from hunting, very clean legs, never a day sick or sorry, sound and happy, always the first over for a cuddle. He's not going to pass a vet with stringhalt (you couldn't flex him as he can't sustain a leg hold for that long) but he's worth his weight in gold when you need a big horse that's easy for a novice or nervous rider. He's ridden in a happy mouth snaffle which he loves but will go in any bit.
His owner wants him to go to a loving home and has asked a very much reduced price than he was purchased for, he owes us nothing and has really earned his stripes already, we'd like him to have a mum rather than have a job.
Fergil is absolutely one in a million and I'm happy to discuss him further on the phone. Price is not negotiable, we've already advertised at the bottom line for a horse of this calibre, you'll not find another.
Please note again - he has stringhalt, if you're seeking image over talent he's not for you
Yes you can loan him from his own home in WN68 postcode, no he can't move homes unless he's sold. thanks
