Dewie is a 11 yo, 16.3 thoroughbred, extremely forward going, slim leggy, very sensitive, engaged, well-mannered, keen to please, but still green. He is an incredibly rewarding ride, and forms strong affectionate bonds. He is safe, needs a very experienced, competent, calm, consistent rider, who understands his need for routine, exercise, love and reliability.
The yard is in Poynings- I can't change the map!
He hasn't got a malicious bone in his body, and doesn't bolt or rear/bronc, but he can spook and be erratic: combine harvesters and large lorries are fine, but being tied up in the yard, swinging gates or clanging buckets or pigeons can be a problem for him. He's still learning about gates and balanced trot.
I'm looking for a kind, quiet, experienced rider who understands thoroughbreds and has ridden race horses before... Ideally full time, but two or three days a week is ok. It's negotiable.
Duties include riding, mucking out, checking up and bringing in/rugging over winter.
He's by far the best horse I've ever owned, and I'm loaning him because work commitments and a dodgy back mean I can't exercise him as much as he needs.
He's stabled just behind the South Downs near Poynings- you'll definitely need a car to get to him... and he won't be moving as he's finally settled in a good field with his buddies.
The yard is DIY, and there's lovely people around to help out/ask advice.
Please write and tell me your experience- please don't bother if you're not used to thoroughbreds/Arabs.
There's a very good riding instructor (who I still use after 40 years of riding!) available too...
I'm looking for a contribution please to the costs. £30 for three days/week, £25 for 2. If he's a full loan we can discuss splitting his food/boosters/dentist/farrier/yard/insur ance fees.
