14.2hh, grey Connemara gelding, 11 years
Shaun is a super duper Competition Pony. He needs a confident competent rider as he very much enjoys his showjumping but can put in a buck and/or rear when he gets excited or confused. Once he’s going he knows his job! You’ll see from the video how much he loves his jumping! Therefore he would be a perfect match for a teen or young adult wanting a zippy competitive pony with a cracking jump!
He’s totally good to do in the stable, loves a fuss and a cuddle. He can be a bit strong/opinionated when being led so we turn out and load with a chifney. However he’s easy to catch and good to load/travel. He’ll happily tie up on the yard and stay there in a headcollar!
I don’t think he was hot shod before he came to us but the last couple times we’ve had no problems, first time he was just a bit unsure and spooky but I don’t think he’d have any future issues now. Easy peasy to pick out feet.
He wasn’t in much work through lockdown so we haven’t clipped him but I’ve clipped plenty of horses around him and he hasn’t flinched. I’d be happy to assume he’d be totally fine!!
As he’s grey he does of course like to get filthy so he’s had plenty of bath times! Can’t say he loves it but he doesn’t make a fuss.
He’s done a lot of lungeing, which generally he’s pretty good at. Better in an enclosed space like a lungeing pen as if he thinks he can he will take himself off for a free school!! He does then settle well on the lunge after and this cheekiness is usually if he’s had a bit of time off. He’s certainly a pony that likes his work and goes better when he’s consistently in it.
His flatwork has improved massively since he’s been here. As he mainly jumped and hacked in his previous home. Really stretching over his back now with a super walk and a much more open trot. I don’t think dressage will ever be his thing but with the right rider he’d definitely do well.
He’s done some xc in his previous home but none with us as we don’t have the facilities. He’s a total star out hacking, not phased by anything. He prefers company but will hack alone, just needs a confident rider. Always goes in a snaffle and never strong.
We really want to find the perfect match for Shaun as we can see the potential he’s got in the showjumping ring and he’s sadly just not right for his current owner....Read full description
