Boo is a 13.2hh heavy weight traditional cob gelding Approx 16yrs companion or occasional light work – suitable for total novices to learn on.
Boo has been badly treated in his past so he MUST only go to a kind caring home. I will need to keep contact with him and just be reassured he is safe. (I would rather put him down than him land up back where he started)
He is super native with a double coat so he can live out 24/7 doesn’t need shoes and is a good doer. He will also happily be pampered if you prefer but you have to clip him if you want to rug him or he is a big puddle of sweat.
Retired through an old Injury (pelvis area) from his past resurfacing leaving him mechanically unsound but not in pain providing he doesn’t do schooling / circle work.
In his hay day he did Dressage, XC and Horseback archery – and probably still could if you want to. He will also happily let you use a polo stick from him.
If he does ridden work I think he may be ok with only light occasional work due to his injury. (I cannot guarantee he will be able to be ridden he has had 2yrs off so it would be a case of seeing what he can and cannot do) He hacks out and is a gentleman in company a bit of a wimp on his own until he has bonded with his owner and then he will go with you to the ends of the earth! He isn’t the greatest on the roads and doesn’t do lorries or tractors.
He is really good with total novices who have never ridden and you can lead him from another horse around the fields. He is also super good with really nervous people he senses it and slows down and is unbelievably kind. Due to how wide he is he can carry adults I’m 5’9” he can happily carry max 12 stone.
I’m sure he will be good at learning tricks and to work at liberty with someone and I’m sure would give you hours of fun.
He has a wicked sense of humour and will take the micky if he thinks he can so he does need a loving home but with someone he knows has boundaries then he respects them and will learn to trust them and be a perfect gentleman.
The one issue he has and this is only even when working with him from the ground never a problem when ridden. If something scares him or you are to aggressive with him with your body language. He will panic and will revert back to his defence mechanism – which is doing very slow mini rears – He very rarely gets triggered and only done it 2 or 3 times in 14years. It is just the occasional situation that reminds him of the past. But it important for people to understand this horse has a horrific past so he must be treated with kindness and understanding. It will take time for him to settle in a new home but I will help with the transition to ensure you are both happy and having fun.
His perfect home would be someone who just wants a kind friend to look after brush and pamper, may be play with him in the school teaching him tricks or may be going for a wander with him in hand, or maybe letting the kids or grand kids have little sits for gentle plods or may be working in a centre for people who need a kind understanding friend to connect with. He has a lot of love to give.
