Barney is a 13.1hh (approx) 14yr old chestnut gelding.

Barney was previously owned by a para rider and took part in dressage competitions. The owner's health then deteriorated and she broke him to drive. He was then sold on to an older gentleman who drove him as a hobby and took him around fetes to give carriage rides. Very sadly the gentleman's wife has dementia that is getting progressively worse and he could no longer manage the ponies. I took Barney on in April, on the understanding that I would find him a 10* home.

I rebacked Barney in May and since then have ridden him intermittently, fitting around me being abroad for work. He's very easy to ride and I've worked him mainly in the school, getting him used to going off of my leg again. He works well in walk, trot and canter with the inclination to be a little lazy rather than hot. He has lovely paces and balance. He's happy to go through fillers and over poles but he has no clue about jumping!

I've hacked Barney in company with no issues, other than him wanting to follow rather than lead. I've also recently started hacking him alone. He can be a bit looky but stops rather than spins and this isn't often at all. He's 100% with traffic, bikes, runners, quad bikes etc and I've ridden him all through the village past workmen and all sorts. He's happy to stand still if we meet someone to chat with and has generally been a pleasure to reschool.

Barney is very true to his breed and likes to think he's top dog. When I first got him he would barge and nip. He's now incredibly easy to do anything with but he needs to go to someone who will keep on top of his manners. He used to put in a very small buck when asked to go forwards into a trot in the school but he's had a smack each time and seems to have got out of the habit. I put this down to him not being used to the leg after years of driving and he hasn't done it for a while. I've had beginner children on him on and off the leadrein and he hasn't put a foot wrong but again he would need someone to make sure they keep on top of his schooling going forwards as he'd take advantage being ridden by a novice day in day out.

Barney is shod in front and has absolutely no health issues. He's up to date with his vaccinations, worming and teeth. Easy to catch and great with the farrier. He's lived with mares and donkeys and is happy in or out. He was hesitant but not bad to load to bring over and I'll do more loading practice with him this week too. He's used to travelling from when he used to do the fetes in the cart.

I need to find Barney a 10* preferably forever home. He must have equine company, a field shelter and/or stable and be looked after to a high standard. He is a much-loved pony and it has been a heartbreaking decision for his old owner to part with him. I could see him being a happy hacker or also doing very well in dressage or showing. He's large enough to take a small adult but at 5ft 6 I'm too big for him. In a knowledgeable, loving home he could be a really smart little pony.
