Equestrian Advice & Guides Beginners Advice
It’s with a heavy heart Toby’s owner has decided to sell him, giving him the chance for a loving 1-1 home.
He’s come on incredibly well with me at the retreat, so much so he’s now ready for his next adventure with a new family.
Toby is a 12.2 strawberry roan Welsh Section A. He’s 14 years old and has extensive riding experience with children. He will be best suited as a lead rein pony, or a second ridden with a confident rider small enough for him.
It’s important he goes to a knowledgeable equestrian home as he is a strong character. He loves working with you but needs reminding who’s in charge! I have done horsemanship work with him, teaching him boundaries. He’s very clever and now understands these boundaries, so he needs someone who will do the same for him.
He has an amazing character, once he learns you are the leader he feels safe and will happily work with you. He’s sweet, funny and very lovable! He’s looking for a special partnership where he’ll be loved.
The relationship with his new little person will be important, he does well with sensitive children and with the right person will be an amazing confidence giver.
He is brilliant in traffic and really enjoys hacking out. He’s really brave so if you’re looking for a pony for your child to go on hacks and fun rides with he is a really promising prospect. He has also done lots of pony club.
He thrives on a relationship where he’s communicated with and listened to. He doesn’t like to be rushed and will suit a calm home environment and living out.
He’s excellent to trim and will do anything you ask of him, although he can have stubborn moments because he’s a dominant pony, which is why he needs an experienced and kind home. His owner has told me he can take time to load, I haven’t worked on this with him but I’m more than happy to.
He came to me because he had back pain due to poor saddle fit which resulted in a breakdown in the relationship with his rider. He was hurting and associated the back pain with being ridden and his little person. He no longer has back pain and is doing extremely well. He’s had an intensive stay with me doing bodywork, therapies & training and has done so much releasing .
He has released so much physical & emotional tension and is now ready for a new beginning. I always recommend clients have me do a session or two on a potential new horse to assess what physical & emotional state they are in and whether they will be happy doing the job they want them to do. Toby has had all this work done so is in a great position to start fresh.
