Zara Phillips, the Queen’s granddaughter, has been confirmed as one of the five eventing athletes to compete at the London 2012 Olympics as part of Team GB.
Zara Phillips will compete riding her horse High Kingdom at Greenwich Park from 28 to 31 July 2012.
Alongside Zara, the other four athletes selected to Team GB for the London 2012 Olympics are Kristina Cook riding Miners Frolic, William Fox-Pitt riding Lionheart, Piggy French riding Jakata or DHI Topper W, and Mary King riding Imperial Cavalier.
With the likes of Mary King who has competed in five previous Olympic Games, William Fox-Pitt who has competed in three previously and Kristina cook who has competed in the Olympics once before, the 2012 Team GB eventing team offers a wealth of experience.
Although it is Zara Phillips’ first Olympic games, the Queen’s granddaughter has a wealth of competing at an international championship level.
Zara Phillips will be following in the footsteps of her mother and father by representing Great Britain in eventing at the Olympic Games. Her inclusion in the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics was thwarted after injuries to her former horse, Toytown.
Zara Phillips said: “I’m so happy to be given this opportunity; my horse High Kingdom was full of running at his last event and has been improving all the time. We thought we’d have a chance after that performance but it was awesome to actually get the call. Now we can kick on to the Games and I just hope he keeps on getting better.”
