Yorkshire International Showjumping Event unveils ambassadorWednesday 02 February 2011
Johnny Nelson has been unveiled as the ambassador for the Yorkshire International Showjumping Event.
The former professional boxer turned show jumper was announced at a press launch at British equestrian John Whitaker’s yard this morning (Monday 31st January).
Johnny said: “ I am a strong supporter of showjumping and have recently joined forces with the sport’s governing body British Showjumping to become an ambassador for the sport.
“The unveiling today as an ambassador for the Yorkshire International Showjumping Event is my first official role for British Showjumping and I’m excited to be part a new event on home soil.”
The Yorkshire International Showjumping Event is a three day, CSI *** international competition and will see £150,000 of prize money competed for during the show, from Amateur Championships to top International classes, The Charles Stanley Puissance and the Grand Prix.
Supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, the official tourism agency for Yorkshire, Chief Executive Gary Verity said: “It’s fantastic that someone of Johnny’s caliber is fronting this major new event in Yorkshire. His backing will help catapult the Yorkshire International Showjumping Event into the limelight even further and back our drive to bring more visitors into our county.
“We want to show the world that Sheffield – and Yorkshire – can host high profile, international events such as this. We hope that when visitors come to the event in April, they will extend their stay to enjoy the wealth of stunning locations and fabulous attractions that there is on offer across the UK’s biggest county.”
