The Uber Polo Opening Season Tournaments

Uber Polo
The Uber Polo Opening Season Tournaments

th November with the opening of season tournaments, and generously supported

by Uber Polo. Set at two levels and proving highly competitive, the inaugural Uber Polo

Opening Season Tournament enabled both lower handicapped players and professionals to be

a part of the playing action in the arena and seize some Uber Polo goodies!

The final of the 8-10 goal was up first. La Martina as the higher handicapped team, were

favourites to steal the title with 6-goal player Tarquin Southwell at the helm, taking directive

control of his side very efficiently. Orange Square were forced to have a team change in the

form of Chas Taylor who would later be taking part in the 0-2 goal final, and making Orange

Square a 7-goal side.

The game was fast passed with some great action up and down the arena. The first two

chukkas were tight. Both teams were battling it out in both attack and defence and scoring

some impressive goals.

The third chukka saw Southwell display his 6 goals in handicap with some great controlled

plays and using his team wisely. Having notched up a 5-goal advantage he set his team to

defend for the final chukka. Orange Square with a lot of work on their hands, took to the task

with determination. Chas Taylor scored a great goal to kick-start their momentum. With only

one minute left on the clock Orange Square squeezed in another goal but with 3 goals left to

find, time had run out.

La Martina ran out the victors 13-10 in a really good, open game which was thoroughly

enjoyed by both players and spectators alike.

The finals day saw title sponsors team Uber Polo take on Circadian for the trophy. Matthew

Mitchell’s Circadian team were hotly tipped to take the title with a well formulated, strong

team in both defence and attack. The Uber Polo side were not going to sit back and let the

opposition take the title easily though. Chas Taylor organised his group of ladies well and

held the score lines neck and neck in the first chukka. The second chukka was stolen by the

mighty Circadian who knocked up a convincing lead. The Uber Polo girls put on their best

performance in the third and fourth chukkas and pulled out some superb goals to keep the

team in the game. The final score was 7-4 for Circadian in a great 0-2-goal game which

instilled a lot of newfound confidence in some tournament beginners.

Co-Founders and Directors of Uber Polo, Leigh-Anne Moore and Steph Edwards-Morgan,

presented an assortment of Uber stylish prizes to the winners and runners up in the clubhouse,

whilst the players, AEPC members and sponsor’s guests were treated to scrumptious home

cooked mince pies and a glass of mulled wine.

The winter arena season kicked off in earnest at the All England Polo Club, Hickstead on

Saturday 28
