Team Haygain event rider has tragic stable fireFriday 03 June 2011
Team Haygain event rider Boyd Martin, suffered huge tragedy in the early hours of Tuesday 31 May when a fire broke out at his yard in Pennsylvania.
The fire killed six horses and three people suffered minor injuries whilst trying to rescue the 11 horses that were in the barn.
The six horses that perished were Call Me Ollie, Charla, Ariel, Phantom Pursuit, Cagney Herself and Summer Breeze. Call Me Ollie and Charla had competed at international level.
Four of the horses are currently being treated at the New Bolton Center. Including are Boyd's WEG mount Neville Bardos, Otis Barbotiere, Catch a Star and Ambassador's Rose.
Boyd was leasing the barn from fellow event rider Phillip Dutton. Early reports indicate the fire was the result of an electrical fault.
A fund, to help Boyd and the stable staff, has been set up. Show your support at www.boydandsilvamartin.com.
