Steaming Back From Injury To Dressage Win

Steaming Back From Injury To Dressage Win

FOLLOWING a year off due to injury, Becky James was delighted with her 10-year-old dutch warmblood, Tyfoon E after winning two classes on their first time back in the competition arena.

Becky is the Technical Sales Manager for HAYGAIN hay steamers and combines a busy career with riding and training her dressage horses.

The pair won both medium classes at Burrows Court in Gloucestershire and Becky was delighted with their performance.

Based at Chipping Sodbury, Becky said: “It was a fantastic result considering it was our first outing of the year after a long break from competing.

“I was just pleased to be back out again and definitely didn’t expect to win!

“He is a fabulous horse who I have always felt very lucky to have, I first saw him when I was working for Alice
Peternell and just had to have him even though I wasn’t really good enough to do him justice.

“Alice continued to ride him as a young horse with much success including coming second in the Korenbloem Challenge as a five-year-old before I took over and enjoyed success in BYRD’s internationals and regional championships.”

Eighteen months ago Tyfoon suffered an injury which has taken a long time to fully recover. During this period Becky started working for HAYGAIN, and the hectic new schedule meant there was little time for competing.

“He has done more jumping and hacking with my friend Liz than he has dressage over the last year but it has done him the world of good and he just seems to be loving life at the moment which is great.”
The combination train with Peter Storr who has been a great help in their progress throughout their time together.

Becky thoroughly enjoys her role at HAYGAIN hay steamers.

“I carried out the initial research on HAYGAIN’s now patented method of steaming hay for my MSc thesis at

The Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. It was a wonderful opportunity to be asked to work for HAYGAIN after finishing my MSc and it has been a very exciting year. As a competitor I look for every way to maximize my chance of success, equally I understand how respiratory health can have huge implications on performance, so it has been amazing to be involved with such a breakthrough product from the beginning”. added Becky.
