International dressage rider Roland Tong has an enviable competition record and is highly regarded for his sympathetic and effective approach to training and producing young horses, having won multiple young horse titles and represented Great Britain at the World Young Horse Championships.

Now with horses training and competing in small tour and at grand prix, Roland has joined the equally successful team of riders supported by Sue Carson Saddles and riding on a Harmony saddle from the Sue Carson Saddles range, fitted by Distributor Becky Whitcombe, he has immediately felt the difference.

Roland, who is based in Hampshire at his partner Ben St John–James’ yard, explains, “I have always liked the theory behind these saddles and had a Harmony saddle fitted to my grand prix ride Pompidou at the end of last year. A 13yo Westphalian, he isn’t the easiest to fit a saddle to, but this sits perfectly still. I love the theory of Flair air flocking and it was immediately obvious that the horse is more comfortable; I can feel his movement in my back and it’s easy to see that he has more swing.”

Roland has chosen Sue Carson Saddles for other horses in his yard, amongst them the 7-year-old Ambience IV. Training at Prix-St-Georges level, Ambience IV scored a massive 80.57% to win a strong Medium Freestyle class at the Kingston Maurward Winter Regionals and is definitely ‘one to watch’ this season.
