Mutilated pony found by owner in Carmarthenshire

Mutilated pony found by owner in Carmarthenshire

Pet owner Linda Vickerage found the mutilated remains of her seven-year-old pony, Barney, after going to feed him on Thursday evening (5 January 2012).

After making the discovery in Ciffig, Carmarthenshire, Linda called the police and then a vet. The vet found that Barney had had his eyes removed, his mouth slit, his ear cut and had been slashed along his body, exposing some of his organs.

As reported by WalesOnline.co.uk, Linda said: “I am devastated at what has happened. Barney had a beautiful, lovely personality.”

Linda continued: “There was blood everywhere, pouring from his eyes and his abdomen. It was such a shock, it was unbelievable.

“The police arrived but it was dark, so I went back up there on Friday morning and it was just horrific.

“They had taken his eyes out and chopped part of his ear off and cut him all along his body and removed his internal organs.

“Whoever did this did not just attack him, they took sadistic pleasure from it. They butchered him alive.

“The vet said it was the worst case he had ever seen. Whoever did this is a very evil person.”

Linda also owns another pony, Fella, who was kept with Barney. Linda told WalesOnline.co.uk that she is now fearing for Fella’s wellbeing.

Linda said: “Barney is still in the field as the vet said if they took him away it may do more damage to Fella as he is still grieving. He’s seen some terrible things.

“I am afraid the person responsible will come back to remove the evidence or attack Fella. I think they have already come back, as only part of Barney’s ear was missing the first night, and then his whole ear had been cut off on Saturday morning. I want to see whoever did this locked up, I can’t believe someone is capable of doing this to an animal, it’s despicable.”

The RSPCA have said they will be taking action to try to find the people responsible. Anyone who may have any information can contact the RSPCA anonymously on 0300 1234 999.
