The family who hail from Cumbria in the North of England have two generations currently competing nationally and internationally, with George Senior having been part of many British medal winning teams since 1972.
In September 2009, the Bowman family (George Senior, his brother Robert and his two sons George Junior and Barnaby) took their 15 horses for a very different competitive challenge from Yorkshire across the Irish Sea in a convoy of lorries, with the ‘Molly Malone’ stagecoach, to re-create the historical Limerick to Dublin coach run to raise money for the Barretstown Charity.
The Barretstown Charity was founded by Hollywood actor Paul Newman in 1994 and is an organisation based in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. The Barretstown Charity improves the lives of children and their families affected by childhood cancer and other serious illness, helping to rebuild their confidence, trust and self-esteem through therapeutic recreation. Alongside the family, an army of grooms and helpers assisted in this mammoth four-day trip to raise money for this worthy cause with lots of interest and adventure along the way.
