Havering Pony Club Camp 2010

Havering Pony Club Camp 2010
CAMP 2010

Havering Pony Club’s summer camp took place this year at Writtle Agricultural College, Chelmsford. Having had a break from the college last year, we were glad to be back there again. Apart from a few problems with wasps and flying ants, I think everybody enjoyed themselves. The weather was not to awful and when it did rain we used the indoor schools. We also had plenty of help from the parents that were at camp.

We were very lucky to have the choice of two indoor arenas, one outdoor arena, fields and the cross country course. Day time lessons, which included flat and jumping, were given by Claire Knowles, Adrienne Tinworth, Julie Gould and Cherie Taylor. We also had Terry Vaughan giving a lesson on Tuesday afternoon.   Claire Knowles gave extra individual lessons on Tuesday and Thursday evening. Poor Claire must have been exhausted by the end of the week. Lucy Thompson gave a lesson on Wednesday evening and Annette Philpott took two of the groups cross country on Thursday and the smaller children went for a play in the water with Julie and Cherie.

On Thursday afternoon, some of the children did their Riding & Road Safety achievement badges. This now allows them to start taking the pony club tests which they did and passed their D and D+ badges. Well done. On Thursday evening we had a visit from Lynda Forster, from Natural Animal Feeds (NAF), who spent hours stuck on the M25 trying to get to us. Lynda bought lots of goodies for the children to try and spent time explaining various things about the products and how to use them.

Friday was fun and games which included show jumping and a “riding display”. The riding display was freestyle and each person had to make up a display of 5 minutes. On Friday evening presentations were made and prizes were donated by NAF. Chilton Saddlery and Pony Magazine.

Saturday morning arrived all too soon and sadly everything was cleared up and put away until next year.

Heather Sherry,
Asst. D.C. Havering Branch of the Pony Club.
