Girl's football team raises £105 for The Horse Trust in Stay-Awake-Athon

Girl's football team raises £105 for The Horse Trust in Stay-Awake-Athon
The Bucks CC FC Under 16s Girls team has raised £105 for local horse charity The Horse Trust by taking part in a sponsored Stay-Awake-Athon.

On Saturday 13 November, the team presented Susan Lewis, Fundraising Manager at The Horse Trust, with the money raised from the event. The Horse Trust runs The Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Buckinghamshire, which provides lifetime sanctuary for around 100 horses, ponies and donkeys, including retired working horses and rescue cases.

Eight members of the Under 16s Girls team took part in the Stay-Awake-Athon, which took place at the Bucks CC Sports & Social Club Hall on Lower Road, Stoke Mandeville in July 2010. The girls raised sponsorship from family and friends for staying awake all night in the Club Hall without sleeping.

Sharon O'Sullivan, the manager of the team, said the event was a success, with most of the girls staying awake from 10pm in the evening until 6am the next morning.

"The girls thoroughly enjoyed their Stay-Awake-Athon. Most of them made it, although a few sneaked in the odd cat naps in between the varied board games, Wii and ball games played during the night. The donation outcome to such a worthy local charity as the Horse Trust makes me and the Club very proud of the girls," said Sharon.

Susan Lewis, Fundraising Manager for The Horse Trust said: "We are so grateful to the Bucks CC Under 16s Girls team for their fundraising efforts. What a creative way of raising money - I bet they were all pretty tired the next day! The money they have raised will help us to continue our work with rescue cases and retired working horses."

"We have invited the team to visit the sanctuary to help out with the horses sometime next year - we hope this will give them an opportunity to see the difference they have made with their fundraising efforts," added Susan.

It costs The Horse Trust an average of £17 every day to look after each horse at the sanctuary.
Eight members of the Bucks CC FC Under 16s Girls team took part in the
Stay-Awake-Athon: Rebecca Ruby, Abbey Joseph, Caitlin Joseph, Samantha Beckett, Shannon McGill, Melissa Daniel, Charlotte Knight and Natasha Knight.
