Blenheim to go bareback in 2012

Blenheim to go bareback in 2012

Following on from the success of Blenheim’s hugely popular AmTrust Eventers High Jump (in which some riders have chosen to jump the fence without a saddle in order to gain an extra ‘life to stay in the competition’) the event has taken up the suggestion from the riders themselves to host a bareback showjumping class.

Sponsored by Saffery Champness, with a prize pot of £1000, the competition will be held on the Sunday of The Fidelity Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials (6-9 September 2012). In the new class, all the competitors will ride bareback and will be jumping 1.05m against the clock, with an optional joker fence at the end, standing at 1.15m.

Both the AmTrust Eventers High Jump and Saffery Champness Bareback Showjumping competitions will run in the lunchtime break between Blenheim’s two feature eventing classes. They will form part of a packed Sunday programme which also includes: cross country (CIC***), showjumping (CCI***), displays, demonstrations, kids’ attractions and shopping.

“We welcome and listen to feedback and thought the bareback competition was a really ‘fun’ idea. It may sound corny but Sunday is really shaping up into our ‘Fun Day’ – one for all the family and representing great value at only £14 for advance adult admission, free parking and free admission for under 12s." says Event Director, Mandy Hervieu.

“Word is spreading fast and the new class has already attracted significant interest especially from our young riders – with Tom McEwen, Dani Evans and David Doel amongst those who have threatened to ‘show the older riders how it’s done’. But, with seniors such as Laura Collett also declaring their interest, it is sure to be hotly contested.”

Event riders can put their names down for the event by emailing [email protected] and for more information about the event or to book tickets, visit www.blenheim-horse.co.uk.
