BHS short-listed for Geovation Awards

BHS short-listed for Geovation Awards

The British Horse Society has been shortlisted for the Geovation awards in London on 26 January for its Mapping Britain on Horseback project.

BHS Access and Rights of Way Senior Executive, Heather Clatworthy said: “I would like to thank the Geovation panel for giving equestrians this opportunity. If successful, this project will benefit millions of people across the country. This is a new and unique venture which aims to collate and digitise every equestrian route in Britain, which will then be made available for free download and for use on GPS devices and mobile phones to help navigate routes. With speeding and road traffic being at an all time high, the need of access to safe off-road routes for vulnerable road users is significant.”

“The investment would help make such a positive, long term difference to the outdoor enthusiasts of Britain, and mean equestrians can locate and access the National Bridleroute Network they so desperately need, simply through utilising geography.”

Out of more than 380 applicants nationally, the shortlist of 10 finalists has been invited to pitch at the Dragon’s Den style ‘GeoVation Show Case’ on 26 January, at the Royal Geographic Society in London. The finalists, including the BHS, will be required to give a short presentation demonstrating the project’s innovative potential and use of geography, followed by a question and answer session with a panel of judges and audience. All projects are competing to win the £10,000 first prize. Two runners-up will also receive £5,000 each, and the recipient of the community choice award, as voted for by the audience, will receive £1,000.
