Bare-all Bareback for Drivers : Helpful or Hurtful?

If you haven’t heard, then you’re probably still thinking up ways to slow drivers down while riding roadside… Hold your horses, we’ve got one! Or at least, Lauren De Gruchy has.

Early this month, Lauren setup the facebook page ‘Slow Down For My Horse’ to increase awareness and used the space to post photos wearing little more than her horse to champion the phrase ‘Will you slow down for me now?’

Though we can’t personally speak for the drivers, we’re certainly paying attention to the cause!

Kicking off like a spooked horse, this page has over 22,000 ‘likes’ already and hundreds of supporters posting their own bare-back shots…

There are few riders who haven’t experienced some form of issue regarding careless drivers however it’s a constant struggle to reach out to such a wide and diverse audience. Lauren’s idea of promoting awareness in a way that is fun and can ‘trend’ has made much more of an impact than any campaigns before it and has had coverage from local newspapers, online publications and more pointed ‘Playboy’.

But is this the kind of coverage that will make a real change? It certainly will get Playboy readers talking, but will it also encourage similar drivers to shout ‘Get your kit off!’ while driving dangerously past a horse as to not be caught?

The horse community are not shy to voice opinions and though many are so enthused by the campaign that they’ve joined in, others feel this doesn’t answer the problem that the campaign is in name of.

Some think this is a derogatory campaign that will only damage the reputation of horse riders, and others think this will do nothing at all. But every campaign has it’s supporters and opposers and here at Horsemart, we’re just happy to see equine stories, movements and trends making it to local, national and international news!
