Actress Jenny Seagrove to help Sussex Horse Rescue Trust reunite mare and foal

Actress Jenny Seagrove to help Sussex Horse Rescue Trust reunite mare and foal

The Sussex Horse Rescue Trust in Uckfield is receiving help from the actress Jenny Seagrove to reunite a mare with a foal that was born there in 1996.

It was recently discovered by the trust that the mare, Octavia, had spent some time being cared for at Jenny Seagrove's Mane Chance Sanctuary.

Jenny headed to Uckfield to visit the foal which is now fully grown and is called Shoreham, however, she had sad news that that Octavia had moved on.

Octavia was one of a group of shires that were bought by the TV writer Carla Lane in late 1995 after she set up Animaline at Horsted Keynes.

The shire was in foal and underweight and was then given to the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust in Uckfield. Octavia then foaled the following February and the foal was, as requested by Carla, named Shoreham.

However, after foaling there was a problem as Octavia trod on her foal and refused to feed him. Therefore Shoreham was hand-reared and fed every four hours at the Trust. When it came to time to wean the foal, the trust asked Carla to take Octavia back for a while and they eventually lost contact with her when she was moved on to other places.

Jenny Seagrove has recently promised to try her hardest to help the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust get Octavia back again to reunite the foal with the mare.

Seagrove has had a long acting career that has included starring roles in elevision classics from Barbara Taylor Bradford's A Woman of Substance to Judge John Deed, films such as Local Hero and Don't Go Breaking My Heart and a string of West End successes, most recently in The Country Girl opposite Martin Shaw.
