WHERE DID CURLYS COME FROM?
In North America around the start of the 1900s, a family spotted Curly Horses running with Mustangs. After two exceptionally cold winters, where temperatures reached minus 50, when the cowboys came to catch wild mustangs in the spring, they were forced to use the curly coated Horses as the cold and snowy winter had taken its toll on nearly all the Mustangs.
Much to their surprise, they found the Curlys very easy to back and their stamina meant that they could do the work of two Mustangs.
Previous to this ‘new’ discovery of curlys, the Curly was already held in high regards in the Crow and Sioux Indian cultures, where they were reserved for only the Chiefs to ride.
Hypoallergenic – suitable for most people who are usually allergic to Horses. Their hair is more like mohair and can even be spun into yarn!,
Very people friendly,
Willingness to Learn,
High Level of Stamina,
Reduced flight instinct with easy going temperament,
Stronger hooves than non Curlys, so many are barefoot,
