How to Whiten Coats for a Horse ShowHow to Whiten Coats for a Horse Show Monday 11 October 2010
Taking part in a horse show requires the horse to looks its best. This means owners must groom a horse properly in order to get them appearing flawless. Horse grooming can take hours to be fully prepared for a show. One of the most important ways to have your horse looking fresh is to make sure the white parts of his coat are pristine. The brighter they appear, the more your horse will be appreciated by judges.
• Start to groom a horse by bathing him first. The cleaner you begin the process with, the easier it will be to whiten further.
• A lot of horses have white markings on their legs. These are usually the parts that get the dirtiest because they are closer to the ground. Horse grooming here should be done by clipping against the hair. Make sure to stop at the edge of the white markings.
• Now wet the white spots and apply some bluing shampoo to the hair. This helps to remove any stains and makes the area as clean as it can be.
• The next horse groom step is to mix some water and baking soda into a paste. Apply this to stubborn stains in the white parts and leave to dry before brushing it off. This is a great way of tackling marks and dirty patches to reveal the true whiteness.
• Just before the horse show ring, apply some cornstarch to the white markings. Be careful not to get any on the coloured parts surrounding. Brush away any excess.
• If you still have a bit of time to wait before the horse show, cover your horse with a rug and wrap his legs. This will ensure he is kept as clean as possible before entering the ring.
Groom a horse in this way and you will certainly see the great results. The white will stand out and create a beautiful contrast against the other colours.
